Synopsis

 How do we begin?

Origins have endlessly enthralled humankind. Wrapped in story or shrouded in myth, questions about origination and beginnings spark the imagination and push the thinking mind in the human endeavour to make sense of identity, belonging and our place in the universe. Be it the cosmic 'Big Bang' or minuscule seed that contains a tree, beginnings can be mammoth or microscopic.

To originate is also to create. And while "creation" is oft-regarded as the province of a divine force or phenomenon, in actuality, the drive to make and create is a deeply human one that pulses within.

Bringing together artists from Singapore, Southeast Asia and Asia, this exhibition at Gajah Gallery reflects on the eternal questions of beginning(s), being and becoming – in art and as the makers of art.

"Big Bang" is a story of art; it is also a tale of creators.
