Synopsis
An exhibition of contemporary art by eight women from East and Southeast Asia who challenge prevailing patriarchal narratives and explore ideas of body objectification as it relates to female identity.
Curated by independent curator Loredana Pazzini-Paracciani, the show features paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, video and installations. The artists include Nadiah Bamadhaj (b.1968, Malaysia), Peihang Benoit (b. 1984, Taiwan), Maria Madeira (b. 1966, Timor Leste), Le Hien Minh (b. 1979, Hanoi, Vietnam), Soe Yu Nwe (b. 1989, Myanmar), Charmaine Poh (b. 1990, Singapore), Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook (b.1957, Thailand) and Pannaphan Yodmanee b.1988, Thailand.
Disobedient Bodies reflects Sundaram Tagore Gallery’s longstanding mission to highlight artists, particularly women and those from underrepresented cultures, whose work exemplifies our interconnectedness.
