The Culture Story

Synopsis

“The Second Sex” is inspired by de Beauvoir's classic book and will feature over 20 artworks by 21 international female artists. These works were collected over the years by Mr. Chong Huai Seng and Ms Ning Chong, the co-founders of The Culture Story. In recent art discourse, feminism has taken on a new voice and women power has reasserted itself in our zeitgeist, from politics (Angela Merkel, Kamala Harris) to music (Taylor Swift, BlackPink) to the arts (Louise Bourgeois, Yayoi Kusama). Museums all over the world are now collecting female artists as they try to fill the gaps in their collection and exhibition programmes. In contemporary art especially, women artists have found favour with younger collectors, especially millennial female collectors. Women artists are no longer viewed any differently from their male counterparts, there is greater equality in the art ecosystem than before. We We hope this exhibition will encourage further conversations about female representation in art.
