Synopsis

Project Timeless Peranakan Fashion, Reimagined! revitalizes the traditional Peranakan Chinese attire by merging it with contemporary fashion trends. Reflecting Singapore’s multicultural identity, Peranakan culture embodies a unique blend of Chinese, Malay, and European influences.

Inspired by the UNESCO-nominated Kebaya: Knowledge, Skills, Traditions, and Practices, this project reimagines the iconic Nyonya Kebaya, infusing it with modern design elements to appeal to younger generations. By incorporating Peranakan motifs into trendy apparel and accessories, the project aims to make traditional wear part of everyday fashion.

The initiative seeks to expand Peranakan fashion beyond ceremonial contexts, encouraging Singaporeans to embrace their cultural heritage while creating a stylish fusion that appeals to a global audience. Ultimately, Timeless Peranakan Fashion, Reimagined positions Singapore’s Peranakan heritage as a key influence in international fashion, blending tradition with innovation to create a timeless, modern aesthetic.
